Answers:
What is the difference between a wood burning stove and a multi fuel stove?
Stoves that burn both wood, smokeless fuel and coal are called multi fuel stoves. A wood burner is used for burning wood only. Burning wood likes to sit on a bed of ash as it burns, but smokeless fuel requires a grate where air can enter from beneath and this may have an external lever or control called a riddling mechanism to shake the ash into the ash pan. The easiest way to see if you have a wood burning stove or multi fuel stove is too look for the grate.
What is a DEFRA approved appliance and how do I know what I am purchasing is DEFRA approved?
DEFRA is The Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs. It is a government department in the UK. They effectively monitor and enforce the Clean Air Act 1993. This means any product on our site that has the DEFRA logo on the image is approved and cleared for use within the ‘smoke control zones’. It is always best to ask when speaking to our team if your product is DEFRA approved as we are constantly updating our site and it may be that a product is approved but currently doesn’t show the DEFRA logo. For more information about who they are and what they do visit www.defra.gov.uk and to check if you are in a smoke control zone go to www.uksmokecontrolareas.co.uk
Can I get a spare part for my fireplace/stove?
As a company we can supply most spare parts for a wide range of fireplaces and stoves. All we would need is the make and model of your product, the year it was manufactured or purchased and if possible a serial number for either the fire itself or the specific part you need replacing. There will be times when a part is hard to source depending on the age and availability however we will endeavour to meet any order we receive and will usually succeed. As always, if in doubt please call us and our sales team will be ready to help.
How do I know what kW output I need for my room/house?
There is a general formula to work out this question. It is set into two categories;
For Feet and Inches – Length X Width X Height= Then divide your figure by 500.
For Metric - Length X Width X Height= Then divide your figure by 14.
If this is not clear or you are having any issues while working out your appropriate output then once again please contact our team who will be happy to talk you through the process and work it out on your behalf. You should keep in mind that it is a flexible formula which produces nominal requirement figures. Please call to discuss as other factors may be relevant to your installation.
What delivery charges apply to my order?
We currently use postcode masking system to calculate accurate shipping costs to you based on the weight size of your order. At the bottom of every page there is a "Shipping Costs" icon, simply click this to find out how much the shipping will be to you on your order. We understand that this is not the easiest way to understand our shipping costs, so if you struggle to work out our delivery charges please check with a member of the sales team when placing your order.
How do I go about getting glass replaced for my stove?
To have a section of glass replaced on your stove we will need the name, make, model & age of the stove, if you do not have access to this information then we will require the exact measurements and shape of the broken glass in order to get an accurate replacement. This should be provided in a template and either e-mailed or posted to us. The best way to get a quote from us is to send the measurements you require to our sales inbox - sales@fireplaceproducts.co.uk and you will receive a quote back as quickly as possible. Using our combined extensive knowledge of the stove industry we can often identify stoves from images, therefore if you have a photograph of your stove, this will assist in identifing the correct glass for you.
Can I Install A Fireplace, Stove or Insert Myself?
Installation of our products must be carried out in compliance with local building regulations and using the products installation manual. It is possible to instal a solid fuel appliance yourself, but you must have it signed off by either a quailified installer or your local building control office. We always suggest that you employ a qualified and registered installer to carry out any fitting. For a full list of installers in your area visit the HETAS website which is the governing body for solid fuel - www.hetas.co.uk Gas instilation must also be carried out by registered and qualified installers. The governing body for these works has now changed to "Gas Safe"
