DEFRA (The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs), have designated some areas of the UK as 'Smoke Controlled Areas'. This means in order to burn wood in one of these area you need to purchase an approved/exempt appliance or fit it with a compatible kit. All of our DEFRA kits are only suitable for use with their respective products, there is not a generic kit available that allows you to convert any woodburner.
To burn within a smoke controlled area your stove has to be DEFRA exempt. This means that your stove has to be approved by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). DEFRA check the emissions of a stove and decree whether it meets their standards. If it does, the approved stove can be used in smoke controlled areas, if it doesn't, the stove cannot be used.
If you have a stove that is not DEFRA exempt but would like to use it within a smoke controlled area, all is not lost! We supply DEFRA kits that fit specific stoves that can convert your stove into a DEFRA approved stove.
It is worth noting that this isn't a 'one-size-fits-all' type kit; these kits are only for use with their respective products. Struggling to find the accessory for you?
