Fire and flue cement is able to withstand extreme temperatures, and as such are used to seal joints in your chimney, for use with wood burning, multifuel and gas stoves, fires and cookers. After installing your appliance, fire cement will be used to connect the stove into the flue safely, as this is the hottest part of the chimney.
Over time, fire cement does begin to crack and falter in the prolonged heat, and will need replacing eventually. Flue cement is used to connect sections of flue pipe together as it extends upwards, this is equally heat resistant and creates tight smoke-tight joints, and as with fire cement will eventually need replacing despite its heat proof properties.
