The Gallery Magnetic Flue Pipe Thermometer enables you to avoid burning too hot, causing damage to your stove or too cool as an under-fired wood stove is smoky and can cause hazardous creosote and tar to form in the stove pipe. Instead this thermometer informs you when your burn rate is in the optimum firing range. A wood burning or multifuel stove without a thermometer is like a car without a speedometer. Having a stove top or flue pipe thermometer gives you information about the operation of your stove and tells you simply if you are burning to cold, to hot, or just right. This handy tool is very useful if you are new to burning wood. This thermometer has Gallery branding on it.

Attach magnetically to single-wall flue pipe. Best placement is approximately 300mm (12) above the stove top. If exterior stove pipe exceeds 400°C (800°F) the magnet inside the thermometer can fall out and burn your floor. Drill a small hole into the flue pipe to place the safety screw through the central eyelet. Alternatively use wire to secure the thermometer around the pipe. The folding handle allows you to safely move the thermometer once it is on your pipe, but does get hot when the stove is in use.

If you are burning at 250°C (475°F) or higher then you are wasting energy and creating a potential safety hazard. High temperature may be reached on initial firing but not advised for continuing operation. With flue temperatures this high there is a risk of igniting any built up creosote, which could in turn lead to a chimney fire. A safe operating temperature would be between 110°C – 250°C (230°F – 475°F) this will provide you with good combustion and optimum burning efficiency. If you are burning with a flue temperature less than 110°C (230°F) then you are burning to cool, leading to incomplete combustion which cause smoke, soot, and hazardous creosote. Open up your stoves air controls and add some more dry fuel to the fire.

Please Note, the Gallery Magnetic Flue Pipe Thermometer is designed to be a guide, it works on the temperature of the flue gases in the flue pipe and is configured based on industry averages. It will only work on single wall flue pipe, if you have a double insulated or twinwall flue pipe coming off the top of your stove then this product will not give you an accurate reading. It is also not compatible with any built-in, cassette or inset stoves where you do not have access to the flue pipe. Finally as wood stove technology improves, some manufactures are developing ways to harness the wasted heat up the stove, using filters in the flue, or stove top boilers, in these instances you will be given incorrect results. If you are unsure check with your stoves instructions first.
