The Portway Inset multifuel stove fits a standard fireplace opening and is suitable for use in Smoke Control Areas and has a large flame viewing area. The Portway Inset has been designed to fit perfectly in to a standard 16" x 22" fireplace opening and still maintain a generous viewing area, and has a choice of contemporary or traditional door.
Portway stoves began in the early 1800's when the owner of an ironmongery store first saw an metal stove in North America. He drew inspiration from this and built his own stove to heat is store based in Halstead. Charles Portway's design proved to be so successful that Mr. Portway set up a small foundry manufacturing solid fuel stoves and did so right up till the 1980's without much alteration.
